Cisco is Nantucket Island’s first and only craft brewery, serving up pints since 1995. They asked the Plato creative team to conduct a full brand refresh in the Spring of 2021. We started by evolving their logo, which lacked balance and suffered from major legibility issues. We introduced a new brand font, Metallophile Sp8, which preserves the antiqued appearance of the original wordmark, while working in harmony with the boldness of the central rune symbol.
The brewery’s original packaging featured a mismatched array of historical woodcuts. In order to preserve the character and whimsy of these original labels, we drew inspiration from illustrated bookplates. Once preliminary sketches were developed, we worked with renown illustrator Steven Noble to bring each concept to life. The project scope included primary and secondary packaging for both cans and bottles, master cartons, keg caps, and canning trays.
